A Figaro Forge workshop is different: you make a real cold process soap loaf from scratch with guided instruction, safety equipment, and room to make the design your own.

Our hands-on classes are built for beginners in the Harrisburg, New Cumberland, Steelton, Camp Hill, Mechanicsburg, and greater Central Pennsylvania area. You do not need chemistry experience or a collection of soapmaking tools. You just need closed-toe shoes, comfortable clothes, and a willingness to create.

What Is Cold Process Soapmaking?

Cold process soapmaking combines oils and a carefully measured lye solution to begin a chemical reaction called saponification. That reaction turns the ingredients into soap. Unlike melt and pour, cold process soap starts with the actual raw ingredients and gives the maker control over scent, color, additives, swirl, and finish.

Because the soap is made from scratch, it cannot be used the same night. The loaf must firm up, be removed from the mold, be cut into bars, and then cure for several weeks. That slower timeline is part of the craft—and part of what makes the finished bars feel like something you truly made.

What You Make in a Figaro Forge Class

Each registration is one approximately 2 lb artisan soap loaf. After it firms up, that loaf can usually be cut into about 10–12 full-size bars.

You can customize:

• Your scent blend
• Up to two colors
• Your swirl or design
• Optional botanicals and decorative toppings

Figaro Forge provides the ingredients, mold, safety glasses, gloves, apron, tools, instruction, and guidance. You make the creative choices and do the hands-on work.

What Happens During the Workshop?

1. Choose your design. Select your scent, colors, and optional decorative elements.
2. Learn the safety basics. We explain the process and how to work carefully with the materials.
3. Measure, mix, and create. You combine the ingredients, add your custom choices, and bring the soap batter to the right consistency.
4. Pour and decorate. Create your swirl, texture the top, and add finishing touches.
5. Let the loaf rest. Cold process soap needs time to firm up before it can be cut.

Participants return approximately two days later to cut their loaf into individual bars. Exact cutting, pickup, and curing instructions are provided during the class.

Is a Soap Making Class Good for Beginners?

Yes. Figaro Forge workshops are beginner-friendly and guided step by step. Registration is priced per loaf/project rather than per person, so two people may share one loaf. That makes the class a fun option for date night, friends’ night, family time, or a parent-and-child creative activity.

Workshops are recommended for ages 10 and older. A participating minor must remain under the supervision and responsibility of a parent or guardian throughout the event.

What Should You Wear?

Soapmaking can get a little messy. Wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes. Aprons, gloves, and safety glasses are provided.
